What's free
Zero's listing says it's free to download, with fasting timers, streaks, weekly trends, expert articles and challenges included; Zero Plus adds more, such as a personalized daily protein target. Fasting Tracker's free version includes the timer, all 8 stages, four plans from 13:11 to 18:6, streaks and 57 badges, your history, weight and water, widgets, a Live Activity and the Apple Watch app. Pro adds 20:4, OMAD, 24- and 36-hour and custom fasts, insights and all 23 guides.
Price
Zero Plus is $9.99 a month or $89.99 a year, according to Zero's help centre, which also offers $4.99 for the first month; its website currently offers a first year for $39.99. Fasting Tracker Pro is $6.99 a month, $29.99 a year (about $2.50 a month) with a free first week, or $79.99 once for life. That's less than Zero's monthly and yearly prices, and lower than its first-year offer. Zero describes a lifetime plan as a limited offer for select members, without a public price.
Devices and languages
Zero runs on iPhone, Apple Watch and Apple Vision, in English. Fasting Tracker runs on iPhone, iPad, iPhone Duo and Apple Watch, in 31 languages, including Spanish, German, French, Japanese, Arabic and Hindi.
Privacy
Every App Store listing has an App Privacy label, filled in by the developer. "Data Used to Track You" means data linked with other companies' apps, websites or data for advertising, or shared with data brokers. "Contains Advertising" appears in the age-rating details when an app shows ads. Fasting Tracker's label lists no data used to track you; it does link purchase history, identifiers, product interaction and crash data to you, for analytics you can turn off in Settings.
Neither app lists data used to track you. Zero's label links health and fitness data, coarse location, identifiers and usage data to you for analytics and personalization. Fasting Tracker keeps your fasts on your devices and in your own iCloud, with no account to create.
Switching from Zero
You don't have to start from zero. Request your data from Zero (Me, Settings, My Data, Download My Data), then open the zip in Fasting Tracker: your fasts come across with their goals, moods and notes, and nothing is counted twice. It's free. Step by step: switch from Zero.
Questions
Is Fasting Tracker a good alternative to Zero?
If you mainly use Zero to time your fasts, yes: Fasting Tracker's timer, stages, streaks, widgets and Apple Watch app are free, and it can import your Zero history. If you rely on Zero's food and protein tracking or its challenges, Zero still does more there.
Is Zero free?
Zero is free to download, with its timers, streaks, weekly trends, articles and challenges included. Zero Plus is a paid subscription.
Does Zero work on iPad?
Zero's App Store listing lists iPhone, Apple Watch and Apple Vision, not iPad. Fasting Tracker has an iPad app.
Can I move my fasts from Zero to Fasting Tracker?
Yes. Fasting Tracker reads Zero's data export on your iPhone, with goals, moods and notes, and skips anything already in your history.
Zero, Simple, Fastic, BodyFast, FastEasy and Window are trademarks of their owners. Fasting Tracker isn't affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by any of them; their names and icons appear only to identify the apps compared.
A note on health
Fasting Tracker is designed for general wellness and is not a medical device. Fasting is not right for everyone. If you are pregnant, diabetic, have a history of eating disorders or take medication, talk to your doctor first, and before any extended fast.
