Fasting Tracker
Switch from Zero to Fasting Tracker
Bring your fasts with you, with their goals, moods and notes. It's free and takes a few minutes
Changing fasting apps shouldn't mean losing your history. Fasting Tracker can import the fasts you logged in the Zero app, so your past fasts, with their goals, moods and notes, are in your History from your first day. Importing is free, and the file is read on your iPhone or iPad.
Zero is a separate app made by another company, and Fasting Tracker isn't connected to it. Fasting Tracker reads the copy of your data that Zero lets you download.
Move your fasts from Zero
- In Zero, tap Me, then Settings at the top right, then My Data and Download My Data.
- Wait for Zero's email. Within 48 hours, Zero emails you a zip file and the password that opens it.
- In Fasting Tracker, tap the gear on Today to open Settings. Under Your data, tap Import fasts, then Zero.
- Tap Choose Zero's file and pick the zip, then enter the password from Zero's email.
- Check the preview: how many new fasts there are, the dates they cover and the first few. Then tap Import.
Other ways to open the zip
- From Mail: share the attachment straight to Fasting Tracker. The app recognises Zero's zip, asks for the password and opens the preview.
- From Files: save the zip there first, then choose it in Import fasts, or open it with Fasting Tracker.
- Already unzipped it on a computer? Choose the file called firestore.json from inside the folder instead. It holds your fasts and needs no password.
What comes across
- Every finished fast, with the time it started and ended.
- Its goal, in hours. A fast without one gets your current plan's goal.
- How it felt: Zero's faces, or the mood from its journal, become a mood from 1 to 5, the same scale you use after a fast in Fasting Tracker.
- Its note, from the fast or from Zero's journal.
A fast that's still running in Zero is left out. End it there first, or start it in Fasting Tracker and set its start time to when it began. Anything that can't be a real fast, such as one shorter than a minute or longer than a week, is counted in the preview as a row that couldn't be read, not guessed at.
Nothing is counted twice
Fasts already in your history, and fasts that overlap one that is, are skipped, and the preview tells you how many. So it's safe to import the same file again, or a newer export later: only the new fasts are added. Imported fasts join your History, stats, calendar and badges, and sync through your private iCloud to your other devices.
From any other app
Choose Another app instead of Zero to import a spreadsheet (CSV) or JSON file from any app that exports one. Fasting Tracker matches the columns by their names, or by what's in them, and shows which column it picked for the start, end, length, goal, mood and note. Change any that's wrong. Each fast needs its start, and its end or its length.
It reads most ways of writing dates, day first or month first, and lengths such as 16.5, 16:30, 16h 30m or 990 min.
Export your own fasts
Your data is yours to take with you. In Settings, under Your data, tap Export your fasts to save or send a spreadsheet of every fast: its start and end, hours fasted, goal, plan, whether you reached it, the deepest stage, your mood and your note. The column names are in your language, and the file opens in any spreadsheet app. To bring it back, on any device, tap Import fasts, then Fasting Tracker: there are no columns to match.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The zip is opened and read on your device. Fasting Tracker asks for the password only to open it and never keeps it. A copy handed over by another app, such as Mail, is deleted once it's read; a file you open from Files stays where it is. Your imported fasts are then saved like any other: on your devices and in your own private iCloud. The app's anonymous usage statistics note only that an import happened, never what was in it. More in a private fasting app.
Does importing need Pro?
No. Import and export are free for everyone, and so are the History, stats and calendar your fasts land in. See what's free and what Pro adds.
What if the zip won't open?
If Fasting Tracker says the password is wrong, check it against Zero's email and try again. If it says the zip can't be opened here, unzip it on a Mac or PC and choose firestore.json from the folder that opens.
A note on health
Fasting Tracker is designed for general wellness and is not a medical device. Fasting is not right for everyone. If you are pregnant, diabetic, have a history of eating disorders or take medication, talk to your doctor first, and before any extended fast.
